So what’s happening with The Joshua Account? Not really that much. Around this time last year, I had some solid plans and goals. Unfortunately, those goals were never met. In fact, the project pretty much got tabled. Early in 2011 some events changed the course of the album.

I was promoted at my day job which meant more responsibilities. It started with several weeks of intense training that also increased my hours. Outside of the work day I spent many hours studying for my exams. Once I got through the training, I was off and running to learn all of the responsibilities and expectations.

The Joshua Account was abandoned for a later time. I thought I could pick up where I left off in a few months after my training was finished, but it wasn’t that easy. Working 50+ hours a week leaves little time to do much else. Many months when by without much guitar playing (except for playing at church). I got a little rusty, plus it’s difficult to get motivated to play after a 10-12 hour shift. It’s tiring, and I’m not a young guy anymore.

Recently, I’ve finally been able to get that balance between work and home more under control. I’m learning to prioritize. I may not spend the amount of time I want on The Joshua Account, but I have been doing some work. I have pick up the writing a little. I rehearse with my drummer friend about once a week. We only work on The Joshua Account currently.

As far as the video podcast goes, I have no plans thus far. I have ideas on what I would want to do with it, but I know time is limited. I would rather spend my time writing. I used to get bogged down by trying to execute all these different ideas, but I can’t do all that. I’m not sure I would want to anyway.

A lot of those ideas are really a means to an end. The video podcast was a way to inform people about the project, but there’s not much to talk about these days. So, there’s not much point. Also, it was there to talk about my composition. I am not passionate about making videos like I am about composing. So why make videos when I can be composing?

That’s the plan for now: compose. After that, probably record, then there may be some things to talk about. There’s no hurry neither. I used to be concerned about time and finishing things according to a plan. That’s incredibly annoying. I don’t care about quantity, but quality. Trying to care about quantity makes me angry because I don’t operate that way.

I think I’ll be much happier if I can work at my own pace and produce satisfying results. The Joshua Account is going to take as long as it takes, and it will sound how it sounds. I don’t care if it is liked by many or few. This journey is my quest to use the passion that God has put in me to tell His story. I invite anyone who wishes to join me, but if this is not for you, I’m okay with that.

Jim Papanek
